The Pernera Beach Hotel in Cyprus is a family-friendly hotel located on Proratas promenade. The hotel, built in 1978 and developed on 5 floors above ground level, has 191 rooms including standard and superior rooms and has just experienced a significant renewal to make the structure not only more modern and elegant, but also more efficient. With a total investment of euro 4 million, the renovation project was planned in 2005 and it took just two winters (from 2011 to 2012) to be completed. During the first year the committee was focused on roof thermal insulation and on the installation of high efficiency solar panels on it. The second part of the renovations, the most important, was carried out during the last winter has seen both rooms and common areas renewal and  innovative facilities installation. The technical equipment was replaced to increase the energy efficiency of the whole building and to reduce by 50% operating costs.Considering the high temperatures reached during summer in Cyprus, great importance was given to air conditioning systems, maintaining a high level comfort for occupants whilst reducing running costs. To get it the designer has decided to use renewable resources wherever possible:  in addition to the installation of solar panels it has been installed an high efficiency heat pump combined with a geothermal system. The result is a totally innovative plant in a traditional market like the Cyprus one, which has energy costs among the highest in Europe. It is in fact the first plant built on the island and it combines the use of renewable energy to non-CO2 emissions. For this reason the 30% of the total cost of the system was supported by the Cyprus Institute of Energy which considers the plant  as a model system. The system covers 90% of the energy needs of the hotel and is managed by an advanced building management system. A Climaveneta FOCS-WNR has been selected for summer and winter air conditioning. It is a heat pump unit for indoor installation, specially designed for 2-pipes plants application with water source  to be combined with geothermal system. The special feature of this unit is the dedicated heat exchanger that  provides hot water for secondary uses on request, like domestic hot water that is totally free during summer period(summer season). Both the plant-side (primary) and the secondary heat exchangers are shell&tube: the first one working as an evaporator or condenser as a function of unit's commutation, and the latest working only as a condenser.
At Pernera Hotel the unit was also equipped with VPF system. The unit is then able to manage the pumps  to modulate the flow rate on both exchangers allowing a considerable saving on pumps functioning power consumption. To save power  the system has been also equipped with a sniffer regulation, which let the pumps functioning on recovery only when it is needed.  Climaveneta units can be installed not only in new buildings but also in important renovations, like in at Pernera Beach Hotel.  In a island where environment is the primary source of attraction for summer tourism, its protection is fundamental. To reach this purpose, perfect comfort of rooms has been combined with maximum energy efficiency, making the property a typical example of eco-sustainability.
