Okamura
Contessa
Sedia da ufficio / Office chair
Design: Giugiaro Design, 2003

THAT'S WHY THIS PRODUCT IS A "MUSEUM PIECE":
“Contessa” gives you the feeling of being seated in “first class” and operations like adjusting the height, the rotation, the maneuverability of the lumbar support on two axes, or adjusting the headrest, can be carried out in a few seconds with the utmost ease. Also, the design of the “Contessa” chairs centers on the combination of highly innovative shapes and colors with the aim of offering absolute freedom of choice, the same kind freedom we exercise when we buy a new outfit.

MAIN CONCEPT OR THE DESIGNER'S REMARK SHOWING THE INNOVATIVE FEATURE OF THE PRODUCT:
Whereas the “Contessa” office chair has an ingenious ergonomic and technical content, Giorgetto Giugiaro and his team managed to create an impression of elegance and lightness which becomes immediately apparent to the user. The design of this office chair projects sleek, elegant and at the same time aggressive forms, which set it aside from the classical office furniture pack, thereby inferring a powerful identity to the chair. Giugiaro's long standing approach, which entails ensuring that all the structural elements of the technical object are visible, proved to be an unfailing source of inspiration in defining the style of the project. This approach was previously adopted for the design of a number of research prototypes including Structura in 1998 and the Aston Martin Twenty Twenty in 2001. The elemental frame structure, which is crucial to defining the overall shape of the chair, best illustrates it.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS BRIEFLY:
The chair is ergonomic and the first of its kind to have all the push buttons - to go up or down, to move forward or back - located in the armrest. Okamura adopts eco-friendly materials and components projected in a modular way. Moreover, main resin components are labelled so that to make easier recycling and reconversion. Contessa satisfies all of the low emission requisites provided by the norms and regulations of the USA Greengard Environment Institute.
